Cleaner, Softer Water for Boise Homes
Hard water leaves spots on dishes and crust on faucets. Other water problems show up as an odd taste or smell. Our licensed plumbers install and service both water softeners and water filters. We help homes in Boise and across the Treasure Valley. Water treatment is one of the many plumbing services we offer.
Hard Water or Water That Needs Filtering?
Softeners and filters solve different problems. Here are the most common signs of each:
- Hard water: spots on glasses after washing
- Hard water: crusty buildup around faucets and drains
- Hard water: dry or itchy skin after a shower
- Hard water: cloudy ice cubes
- Needs filtering: water that tastes or smells like chlorine
- Needs filtering: cloudy or discolored water
Not sure which you have? We start with a water quality check. It looks for chlorine, sediment, metals and hardness minerals. Then we recommend the system that fits your home.
How a Water Softener Works
A softener runs your water through a tank filled with special salt. This is the brine tank. Inside, the system swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium. The softened water then flows back into your home. Soap and detergent work better in soft water. You use less of them, and they rinse off clean.
Problems Hard Water Causes
Hard water does more than leave spots. Minerals stick to the inside of your pipes. Over time, they narrow the pipe and slow the flow. That is one of the common causes of low water pressure. Minerals also settle in your water heater. Sediment makes it work harder and can shorten its life. A yearly flush helps, and it is part of our water heater services. Scale also builds up in faucets and shower heads. It wears out seals and causes drips. Our faucet services repair or replace fixtures that scale has damaged.
Water Filter Options
The right filter depends on what is in your water. We install three main types.
Activated Carbon Filters
Water passes through carbon that traps impurities. These filters reduce chlorine, sediment and VOCs. They also improve taste and smell.
Reverse Osmosis Systems
A reverse osmosis system pushes water through a fine membrane. It removes dissolved salts, minerals and other impurities. Most homes use it at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.
Whole-House Filtration
A whole-house system treats water where it enters your home. Every tap gets filtered water. It also protects your pipes and appliances.
